This nine-day journey from Marrakech to Casablanca via the Merzouga Desert offers a complete discovery of Morocco’s diverse landscapes and historic cities. Starting in vibrant Marrakech, the route heads south to the Sahara before continuing north through imperial cities and coastal destinations, ending in Casablanca.

Along the way, cross the High Atlas Mountains and visit the UNESCO-listed Aït Ben Haddou Kasbah. Travel through the Valley of Roses, Dades Valley, and Todra Gorge before reaching the dunes of Erg Chebbi. Itinerary For: 9 Day Tour From Marrakech To Casablanca

Day 1: Arrival In Marrakech

Upon arrival in Marrakech, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel or riad. Depending on your arrival time, you may relax at your accommodation or take a short walk to begin experiencing the lively atmosphere of the city.

Day 2: Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate

After breakfast, depart Marrakech and travel through the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Along the route, enjoy breathtaking mountain scenery and several opportunities for photographs.

A detour takes you to the historic Telouet Kasbah, once the residence of the powerful Glaoui family. After exploring the site, continue through traditional Berber villages and terraced landscapes toward Aït Ben Haddou. This famous fortified ksar, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of Morocco’s most iconic historical landmarks and has served as a filming location for numerous international movies.

Following lunch near the kasbah, continue to Ouarzazate, often referred to as the “Hollywood of Africa.” Here, you may visit the Atlas Film Studios and explore the historic Taourirt Kasbah. Overnight stay in Ouarzazate.

Day 3: Dades – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga (erg Chebbi)

After breakfast, travel through the Skoura oasis and the Valley of Roses before entering the scenic Dades Valley. Continue toward Tinghir and the dramatic Todra Gorges, where towering cliffs create a stunning natural canyon.

After lunch, continue east through Tinejdad, Touroug, and Erfoud. Along the way, you will see traditional underground irrigation channels known as khettaras, a clever system used to conserve water in desert environments.

Upon arrival at the Erg Chebbi dunes, leave your vehicle and begin a camel trek across the sand dunes. Watch the sunset over the Sahara before reaching your desert camp. Dinner, traditional music, and overnight stay in the desert complete the experience.

Day 4: Sahara Desert – Ziz Valley – Midelt – Azrou – Ifrane – Fes

After breakfast, depart the desert via Rissani, where you may visit the local market if time allows. Continue through the beautiful Ziz Valley toward Errachidia.

Cross the Middle Atlas Mountains and stop for lunch in Midelt. The journey then continues through the cedar forests of Azrou, where Barbary macaques live among the trees. A short stop will also be made in Ifrane, known for its European-style architecture and often called the “Switzerland of Morocco.”

Arrival in Fes in the late afternoon, followed by check-in at your riad for overnight stay.

Day 5: Visit Fes

After breakfast, enjoy a guided tour of Fes, Morocco’s oldest imperial city. The visit includes the Royal Palace gates, the historic Jewish Quarter (Mellah), and the famous medieval medina of Fes el-Bali.

Highlights include Al Quaraouiyine University, considered the world’s oldest continuously operating university, the traditional leather tanneries, and the Mausoleum of Moulay Idriss.

After lunch, visit a traditional pottery workshop and end the day with a panoramic view overlooking the medina. Overnight stay in Fes.

Day 6: Fes – Meknes – Volubilis – Chefchaouen

Depart Fes early and travel to Meknes, another imperial city known for its monumental architecture. Here you will visit the impressive Bab Mansour gate, the royal granaries of Heri es-Souani, and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail.

Continue to the Roman ruins of Volubilis where beautifully preserved mosaics and columns reveal the region’s ancient Roman heritage.

In the afternoon, continue to Chefchaouen, the famous blue-painted town located in the Rif Mountains. Overnight stay in Chefchaouen.

Day 7: Chefchaouen – Tetouan – Tangier

After breakfast, enjoy free time to wander through the charming blue streets of Chefchaouen. Around midday, depart toward Tetouan while admiring the green landscapes of the Rif Mountains.

Continue to Tangier, a historic city positioned at the meeting point between Africa and Europe. Overnight stay in Tangier.

Day 8: Tangier – Asilah – Rabat – Casablanca

Begin the day exploring Tangier, including Cape Spartel and the famous Caves of Hercules. Then travel south to the coastal town of Asilah, known for its artistic atmosphere and colorful streets.

Continue to Rabat, Morocco’s capital city. Here you will visit the Kasbah of the Udayas, the Hassan Tower, and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V.

Later in the afternoon, arrive in Casablanca for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 9: Casablanca – Marrakech

After breakfast, visit the magnificent Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest and most impressive mosques in the world.

Depending on your travel plans, you will then be transferred to Marrakech. This marks the end of your nine-day journey through Morocco from Marrakech to Casablanca via the Sahara Desert.
