Itinerary For: 6 Day Tour From Marrakech To Zagora
Day 1: Marrakech – Telouet – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate
Your adventure begins with an early departure from Marrakech as you travel into the High Atlas Mountains through the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass. At over 2,260 meters above sea level, the road offers impressive views of rugged mountains, terraced landscapes, and traditional Amazigh villages scattered across the slopes.
A detour takes you to Telouet Kasbah, once the residence of the powerful Glaoui family. Although time has left its mark on the structure, the remaining decorative details such as carved cedar ceilings and colorful tiles still reflect its former prestige.
Continuing through the scenic Ounila Valley—known for its red-earth landscapes and traditional villages—you will arrive at the famous Ait Ben Haddou. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of Morocco’s most recognizable fortified villages and has appeared in many international films and television productions.
After lunch, continue toward Ouarzazate, often referred to as the “Gateway to the Sahara.” Here you will visit the historic Taourirt Kasbah before checking into your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Ouarzazate – Skoura – Dades Valley
After breakfast, travel through the palm oasis of Skoura to visit Kasbah Amridil, one of the most well-preserved examples of traditional southern Moroccan architecture.
The journey then continues through the Valley of Roses and the town of Kalaat M’Gouna, famous for its rose cultivation and locally produced rose-based products.
As the road progresses, the scenery gradually changes while entering the Dades Valley, often called the “Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs.” The region features unusual rock formations known as the “Monkey Fingers” as well as fertile agricultural fields.
A scenic drive through the Dades Gorge reveals winding roads and dramatic geological landscapes. Dinner and overnight stay will be arranged in a charming guesthouse overlooking the valley.
Day 3: Dades – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga (erg Chebbi)
After breakfast, depart toward the impressive Todra Gorge, where towering limestone cliffs rise up to 300 meters high. A short walk along the riverbed allows you to admire this spectacular canyon and enjoy the peaceful natural setting.
The journey continues east through Tinejdad and Erfoud, a town well known for its fossil discoveries and date production. By the afternoon, the vast dunes of Erg Chebbi will appear on the horizon.
Upon arrival in Merzouga, your vehicle will remain behind as you begin a camel trek across the desert dunes. The sunset transforms the sand into beautiful shades of orange and gold as you ride toward your luxury desert camp.
Dinner will be served under the stars followed by traditional Berber music around the campfire. Overnight stay in a private desert tent.
Day 4: Merzouga – Khamlia – Ouzina – Ramlia
Wake early to watch the sunrise over the dunes, a peaceful moment when the desert landscape gradually lights up with warm colors.
After breakfast, begin a 4×4 desert excursion. The first stop will be Khamlia village, where the Gnawa community preserves its unique musical traditions influenced by sub-Saharan African culture. You will enjoy traditional music and share tea with the locals.
Continue through Taouz and travel toward more remote areas such as Ouzina and Ramlia. The landscape alternates between sand dunes, volcanic plateaus, and vast desert plains.
Lunch will be served in Ramlia, a small village inhabited by Amazigh families. Dinner and overnight stay will be in a peaceful desert lodge surrounded by palm trees and open desert scenery.
Day 5: Ramlia – M’harch – Zagora
After breakfast, follow sections of the famous Paris–Dakar rally route toward M’Harch before continuing toward Zagora. The landscape becomes increasingly arid, revealing wide open desert plateaus and sparse vegetation.
Upon arrival in Zagora—historically known as a starting point for trans-Saharan caravans—you will have time to explore the surrounding area and photograph the famous sign pointing toward Timbuktu.
Dinner and overnight stay will take place in a desert bivouac near Zagora, offering one final opportunity to experience the peaceful atmosphere of the Sahara.
Day 6: Zagora – Draa Valley – Agdez – Ouarzazate – Marrakech
After breakfast, begin the return journey through the magnificent Draa Valley, the longest river valley in Morocco. The road passes through palm groves, ancient fortified villages, and traditional kasbahs, creating a striking contrast between fertile land and desert landscapes.
A stop in Agdez offers beautiful panoramic views over the valley before continuing to Ouarzazate for lunch.
In the afternoon, travel once again across the High Atlas Mountains before arriving in Marrakech in the late afternoon.
This marks the end of your six-day desert adventure from Marrakech to Zagora, leaving you with lasting memories of Morocco’s diverse landscapes, cultural heritage, and unforgettable Sahara experience.
