This 4-day desert tour from Fes to Marrakech is designed to offer a smooth and immersive journey across Morocco’s most beautiful regions, without rushing or unnecessary stops. From the cultural capital of Fes, travel through the Middle Atlas Mountains, cedar forests, lush valleys, and the golden dunes of the Sahara. Enjoy camel trekking, desert sunrises and sunsets, cultural encounters, and historic kasbahs before crossing the High Atlas Mountains to reach Marrakech.
Departure from Fes in the morning, heading south through the Middle Atlas Mountains. Stop in Ifrane, often called the Switzerland of Morocco, for its alpine-style architecture and clean streets. Continue through the cedar forests, home to Barbary macaques.
The journey continues through mountain passes and along the Ziz Valley, where vast palm groves create a striking contrast with the surrounding desert landscapes. By late afternoon, arrive in Merzouga at the edge of the Sahara Desert. Enjoy a camel trek across the dunes, stopping to admire the sunset. The evening is spent in a desert camp with dinner, music, and an overnight stay under the stars.
Wake up early to witness a peaceful sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, return from the desert and begin exploring the Merzouga region. Travel off-road to visit desert plains, ancient mining sites, and meet nomadic families in their traditional tents while sharing mint tea.
Continue to the village of Khamlia, known for its Gnaoua music and deep cultural roots. After free time for lunch, enjoy a walk through palm groves and visit the seasonal desert lake, often home to migratory birds. Dinner and overnight near the dunes.
After breakfast, depart Merzouga and head to Rissani, a historic trading town and former capital of the Tafilalet region. Explore its traditional souk and learn about its important role in desert commerce.
Continue toward the Todra Gorges, where dramatic canyon walls rise on either side of the river. Enjoy time to walk through the gorge and take photos. In the afternoon, travel through scenic valleys and kasbah-lined roads to the Dades Valley. Dinner and overnight in the valley.
After breakfast, drive through the Valley of Roses and desert oases toward Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its earthen architecture and cinematic history. Enjoy free time to explore the ksar.
Continue through Ouarzazate, often called the gateway to the desert, before crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass. Arrival in Marrakech in the late afternoon, where the tour ends at your accommodation.
